Joho, Mbadi, and Mutua Make 23 Key Govt Appointments

In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 8, several Cabinet Secretaries in President William Ruto’s government made several key appointments in their respective ministries.

Starting with the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, Hassan Joho made appointments in two major dockets of the National Mining Corporation and the Kenya Fishing Industries Corporation, naming Faraj Majur and both Adan Yusuf Deis and Darius Mobe and board members of the respective corporations.

In the Ministry of National Treasury, CS John Mbadi also made appointments in three key agencies, including the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority, where he appointed Michael Waititu Maina as a member until May 18, 2026.

At Consolidated Bank Limited, Mbadi appointed Harun Kipkemei and Florence Auma Oluoch as members of the board of directors. Millicent Omanga was also appointed to serve in the ministry as part of the board of directors of the Local Authorities Provident Fund alongside two others in the same gazette notice.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 (1) (a) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints— Samwel Kariuki Maina, Beatrice Kones, Millicent Nyaboke, to be members of the Board of the Local Authorities Provident Fund, for three (3) years, with effect from the 8th November 2024,” the gazette notice read.

On to the Ministry of Labour, Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua made one Isaac Mbingi Okello a trustee of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to serve for the next three years effective immediately.

The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) also appointed Rose Ombaki to its board of directors through the Cabinet Secretary of Information, Communications and Digital Economy, Margaret Ndung’u.

Deborah Barasa, the Cabinet Secretary for Health joined in on the appointment train by making two appointments as well.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (e) of State Corporations Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Health appoints — Tusmo Jama, Sylvia Achieng Ojoo, Moses Merkalel Atuko, to be members of the Board of Kenya BioVax Institute Limited, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from November 8, 2024, Sylvia Achieng Ojoo serves up to July 27, 2025,” read one of her appointments.

In the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council, Dr Barasa then revoked Sylvia Achieng Ojoo's appointment in order for her to serve in the aforementioned docket.

Julius Migos Ogamba, the CS for education in his capacity appointed Francis Mutungi, Adan Omar Enow, and Hawo Shanko Abdullah to join the Council of the North Eastern National Polytechnic to serve up to June 15, 2026.

Butichi Khamisi was appointed to join the board of directors of the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency by the Water and Sanitation CS Eric Muriithi Mugaa.

Alice Wahome, the CS for Land and Public Works ended the cabinet appointments with three new ones spread across two departments. In the National Construction Authority, she appointed Mercy Okiro and Peter Musango while in the National Construction Appeals Board, she appointed Yvette Olende to join the board.
