The United Democratic Party Movement (UDM) on Sunday gifted the family of the missing Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ksh1.65 million.
Making the donation, UDM’s party leader Ali Roba expressed the agony and anguish the family of the missing MCA has been subjected to for two months since his disappearance on September 13.
He, therefore, called on the respective authorities and security agencies to produce the MCA and be arraigned in court if he was involved in any wrongdoing.
“We are calling on the Inspector General of police, the director of criminal investigations (DCI), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and any other agencies that may be holding the honourable Yusuf to immediately bring him to court,” he stated.
Mandera County Senator Ali Roba, who is also the party leader of UDM, noted that as a party, they were saddened by the abduction of Yussuf Hussein condemning the incident.
“If there are any allegations against him (Hussein), he should be allowed to face them through the proper channels of justice,” Roba added.
The former governor of Mandera made the remarks at the party’s headquarters while receiving new members from Dagoretti maintaining that as a party, they will follow up on the issue to ensure justice is served.
Prior to his abduction, there were claims that Ahmed had been summoned by the Wajir County Security and Intelligence Committee (CSIC).
A letter dated August 6, 2024, allegedly signed by Kwale County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo, requested Ahmed’s attendance at a meeting concerning security issues.
However, following the MCA’s abduction, Ngumo denied any summons took place further complicating the probe into the abduction of the Della Anole MCA.
On October 20, a body thought to be of the Wajir MCA was found dumped in Lake Yahud. Initial reports suggested the body might be of the missing Wajir MCA, however, subsequent DNA tests conducted by both private and government pathologists confirmed that it was not his.
Soon after protests erupted in Wajir as locals expressed their anger towards county security agencies for their perceived failure to protect Ahmed and account for his disappearance.
On Thursday, November 7, the Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja maintained that no arrests have been made so far over the abduction of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.
