The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced continued rainfall over several regions in the country, including the Highlands East region, which encompasses Nairobi County, over the weekend from Friday, November 22, to Tuesday, November 26.
Kenya Met, in its weekend rainfall advisory, revealed that heavy rains would also be experienced in the West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Coast region, North-Western and North-Eastern Kenya.
According to the weather department, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the Highland East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
Kenyans living in the said regions were told to watch out for potential flooding with the downpour projected to begin in the afternoon and extend into the night.
The counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru and Narok were also listed among the counties to receive heavy downpour.
Other counties highlighted among the areas to receive rain include Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot. According to Kenya Met, rain in these areas would begin in the afternoon.
However, the counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as coastal parts of Tana River County were projected to receive light rains over the next five days.
The announcement comes days after Kenya Met Director David Gikungu urged Kenyans to brace for the short rains that would last until December.
Temperature Advisory
With heavy rains expected to continue over several regions across the country, the meteorological department has also advised Kenyans particularly those living in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi.
According to Kenya Met, night temperatures in the above counties are expected to drop up to 12°C for the first two days of the forecast before declining further to 10°C for the rest of the days.
Additionally, the weather department announced that high daytime temperatures would be experienced in the North Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana and Samburu.
Daytime temperatures were expected to soar up to 37°C for the first three days of the weather forecast before subsiding to 35°C for the remaining days.
