In a case reminiscent of the infamous Kitengela Three who were abducted and detained last year by unidentified individuals believed to be police officers, families of four men abducted from the same area are now enduring anguish over the disappearance of their loved ones.

The families of Stephen Mbisi Kavingu, Martin Nyukwa Mwau, Kalani Mwema, and Justice Mutumwa for nearly a month now have been searching for their loved ones in vain.

The individuals were separately abducted last year between December 16 and 17. Since then, their whereabouts remain unknown as they are yet to be released by their abductors despite spirited calls by Kenyans for their release.

The wife of Kavingu who witnessed the incident said her husband was in the shower when the abductors showed up at their home.

"I heard someone enter the house, and upon checking, I saw a man who ordered me to lie on the bed and warned me not to dare look at him," Kavingu's wife narrated saying the man pointed a gun at her.

"The other three forced him (Kavingu) to dress quickly and took him to the car before speeding away," she added.

Neigbours who witnessed the incident said that three gunmen in face masks and caps came to the apartment where he was staying, before making away with him. He was in the shower at the time.

The witnesses detailed that it seemed from the first instance that the men were making some phone calls before bundling Kavingu in their car and quickly leaving the scene.

''There are four men who came here one wearing blue clothes, the other had pink while the other had red clothes. They took him and we did not know where they were taking him or who they were,'' one eyewitness who sought anonymity recounted.

The witnesses shared that some of the abductors remained in the car while others entered the house where Kavingu was taking a shower.

''They had face masks, one was having a car outside while the others came in. We do not know what they were talking about because immediately they took him, they sped off.''

The neigbour explained that the whole incident took place within seconds making it difficult to identify the faces of the abductors who wielded guns.

A sister to Kalani said that his brother and two others who are friends to Kavingu were abducted a day earlier on Wednesday, December, 18, 2024. "The four are friends and they do business selling shoes and bags. We are wondering what wrong he committed for him to be abducted," she stated tears welling up in hera eyes.

Dancan Musimi, brother to Martin Musimi, equally expressed the pain their family has been going through over the abduction of their kin. "I do not know where our brother is. My mum has suffered from high blood pressure and is currently in Mwingi Level hospital receiving medication because of her son," the brother shared.

Residents are in utter shock as the four men are said to be friends doing business to earn a living. It comes as there as been public outcry over abductions that have recently hit the country.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) since June 2024 has recorded 61 alleged police killings and 73 cases of abductions or missing persons. In December 2024 alone, seven abductions were reported, with six individuals still missing, bringing the total to 29 cases under investigation by te human rights group.
