The much-awaited 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results were released on Thursday, January 9, by Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba.
962,512 Form Four candidates who sat for the examinations were informed of their performance as CS Ogamba released the results at Mitihani House in Nairobi.
All the candidates can now check their results via the official KNEC portal; results.knec.ac.ke The candidates need to enter their index number and the name (s) as per the registration data for the 2024 KCSE examination.
Here's the full process of checking the results:
1: Visit the KNEC website
Students can access their results by visiting the official KNEC portal through the secure link results.knec.ac.ke
2: Input your details
Candidates will be required to enter their index number and any one of the names as per the registration data for the 2024 KCSE examination in the spaces provided.
After entering the Index Number, the candidate will be prompted to submit the information.
If the details provided are correct, click on the "View Results" tab and the 2024 KCSE results will be displayed on the screen.
Any candidate with difficulties in accessing results is advised to call KNEC's toll-free number 0800724900 or 0800721410.
3: KCSE Result Slip 2024/2025: Download & Print
Official result slips will be accessible through examination centres where the candidates sat for their exams.
It is advised that candidates, parents, and teachers carefully check the result slip for any discrepancies, such as incorrect names or grades. Any errors should be reported to KNEC within a month of the results announcement.
4: NO SMS Code
Unlike in previous years, candidates will not be able to access their KCSE results through SMS code.
The SMS code was discontinued before the release of the 2023 results after numerous complaints by parents and students over the years. This development was announced by immediate former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu when he released the 2023 results in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu.
"We have engaged engineers to make sure the system works perfectly unlike the other time we witnessed issues with the SMS code," Machogu explained.
The 2024 KCSE examinations commenced on October 22 running till November 22 with students sitting for the exams in 10,755 centres countrywide. This year's exams saw a record number of students sit for the exams, an uptake from last year's figure.
Before releasing the results, CS Ogamba presented the results to President William Ruto in State House, Nairobi with Ruto noting an improvement in the education sector. "We are glad that our education system keeps improving as we enrich the curriculum, hire more teachers and equip our schools with more learning materials and facilities. Consequently, performance is improving in schools all over the country," Ruto noted.
To combat fears of examination leakage and cheating in this year's exams, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) together with the Education Ministry put in place robust measures.
For instance, the 2024 KCSE exams featured personalised papers that included candidates' details such as their names, index numbers, and even schools in a pre-printed format.
Further, CS Ogamba revealed the establishment of special courts to deal with persons charged with engaging in examination malpractices.
Despite the staunch measures, the 2024 KCSE examinations were marred by numerous claims of exam irregularities ranging from cheating to distributing fake exam material. Teachers were also at the center of these irregularities after cases emerged of teachers aiding in cheating by leaking examination material.
Further, cases of poor pay for exam invigilators, examination center managers, and examination markers were also rife.
Additionally, the examinations were marred by tragic events with students in different schools across the country dying due to various causes.
The release of the 2024 KCSE results comes after KNEC released the 2024 KPSEA results in line with the ministry's commitment to release the results of the two examinations in early January.
