Kenya Met Lists Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu & 4 Other Regions to Receive Weekend Rainfall

The Kenya Metrological Department on Friday, January 17, urged Kenyans living in different parts of the country to brace for moderate rainfall over the next five days, from Saturday, January 18 to Wednesday, January 22.

In its five-day weather forecast, Kenya Met listed Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, the Highlands East region, the West of the Rift Valley, the South Rift Valley, and the South-eastern lowlands (areas bordering Tanzania) regions to prepare for occasional rainfall over the weekend.

The weather department, in its advisory, cautioned the residents living in the above-mentioned areas to prepare for moderate rainfall that would fall in the afternoon. 

Counties expected to receive rainfall during the weekend include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and Trans Nzoia.

Additionally, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties are listed to experience the same weather forecast.

According to the advisory, the above regions would receive light showers to moderate rainfall in the afternoons over the next five days with preceding intermittent sunny intervals in the mornings.

Similarly, the Highland East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi were projected to receive rainfall in moderate amounts. 

Other counties forecasted to experience light rains include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.

Temperature Advisory

The Meteorological Department forecasts that many parts of the country will remain sunny and dry, with temperatures in some parts of North Eastern, like Wajir, expected to peak at 37°C over the period. 

"Mainly sunny and dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the country," Kenya Met stated in its advisory.

Additionally, most of the nights are expected to be partly cloudy, with strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) expected in parts of Turkana and Marsabit Counties.

Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, will have temperatures ranging from 6°C to 28°C. Equally, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to have temperatures ranging from lows of 11°C to highs of 32°C.

Counties on the Coast are expected to experience minimum temperatures of 24°C and maximum temperatures of 24°C.
