The Kenya Meteorological Department has listed Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu amongst the regions to receive rainfall in its seven-day rainfall advisory.
In its weather advisory released on Tuesday, January 21, the weatherman informed that most parts of the country will experience mostly sunny and dry weather conditions, with daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C.
Residents of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi have been advised to brace for morning rains and afternoon showers, despite the forecast of mostly sunny weather during the day.
Kenya Met has forecasted that Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok counties will experience morning rains, afternoon showers, and thunderstorms within the forecast period.
These counties, which are around the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, are also expected to have sunny intervals prevail during the day.
In the Southeastern lowlands of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River, Kenya Met forecasted warmer temperatures expected to prevail during the day.
However, a few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy though a few areas may experience showers.
Coastal counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and coastal areas of Tana River are expected to have daylong sunny intervals with the possibility of receiving occasional light morning showers. It is expected that nights will be partly cloudy.
Residents of North-Eastern and North Western counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu were urged to brace for extremely high temperatures with peaks of up to 38°C. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
In the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley (Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, and West-Pokot Counties) sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
Meanwhile, the weatherman stated that the average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley and Southeastern lowlands.
Residents of the affected counties were urged to take note of the incoming weather patterns by Kenya Met Director General Dr. David Gikungu.
