National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula cautioned Kenyans who have been speculating on the health state of Malava MP Malulu Injendi who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Wetangula, while speaking during the ongoing National Assembly retreat in Naivasha, also sent a warning to lawmakers who had equally fallen into the trap of spreading misleading information on the status of Injendi.

According to the Speaker, the lawmaker is currently recuperating in hospital and therefore there was no need for Kenyans to continue with the speculations over his health.

Wetangula's confirmation of the lawmaker's health status was eagerly awaited by the public, as he is legally required to provide updates on the well-being of Members of Parliament, according to the Standing Orders.

"A Member of Parliament may, with the permission of the Speaker, be granted leave of absence for medical or other compelling reasons. Such leave shall be recorded in the House proceedings and reported to the relevant committees." the Standing Orders read in part.

Injendi has been hospitalised for the past two weeks, sparking social media speculation, with some claiming that he was in a critical condition.

He was reportedly admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, January 21, after experiencing health complications, sparking concerns about his well-being.

The Speaker is the latest national leader to address the lawmaker's state after Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa issued a similar update on Thursday last week.

Speaking after visiting the lawmaker at a leading hospital in Nairobi on Thursday and holding a meeting with his family, Barasa disclosed, on the family's behalf, that the lawmaker was in stable condition.

''I want to assure our people that we have seen Honourable Malulu Injendi and he is recovering. Doctors have tried their best and they are continuing,'' Barasa stated.

''We are impressed by the treatment they have given him. I just want to ask you to help us pray for him. I just want to assure our people that our MP is doing much better,'' he added.

Injendi was elected to Parliament to represent Malava constituency under the now-defunct Amani National Congress that merged with the United Democratic Alliance(UDA).
