TikTok has disclosed that it deleted over 334,000 videos from its platform during the third quarter of last year for allegedly violating its community guidelines.

In its Q3 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report released on Thursday, February 6, the video-sharing platform revealed 93 per cent of the videos were removed within 24 hours.

The move is part of TikTok’s proactive content moderation efforts in Kenya which highlights its dedication to maintaining a safe and trustworthy platform.

According to TikTok, the reason for the removal of the videos from its platform included content that lacked integrity and authenticity and those that infringed on mental and behavioural health.

Other reasons for the removal of the videos included the sharing of content that infringed on youth safety and well-being and sensitive videos that displayed mature themes.

The video-sharing platform further revealed that it was building a platform where Kenyans can safely create, connect, and be entertained by investing in advanced technologies, trust and safety teams, and local partnerships.

Globally, TikTok removed over 147 million videos during the same period, with 118 million detected and removed through automated systems.

While releasing the report, TikTok noted that its mission to inspire creativity and bring joy was underpinned by its commitment to user safety and content integrity.

Meanwhile, the latest report is a drop from Q2 where TikTok pulled down over 360,000 Kenyan videos as part of the efforts to foster safe and positive user experience.

TikTok, while unveiling the Q2 report in November last year, said that the 360,000 videos represented 0.3 per cent of the total videos uploaded by Kenyans.

As per the report, 60,464 Kenyan TikTok accounts were banned for violating the community guidelines while 57262 accounts were removed because they were suspected to belong to minors.

According to the popular social media application, In June last year alone, it removed over 178 million videos globally, with 144 million of the videos removed through automation.
