Renowned television host Ken Mijungu has parted ways with Cape Media's TV47, less than a month after his highly publicised arrival at the Muthaiga North Road-based station.
According to a letter obtained by Kenyans.co.ke and signed by Cape Media HR Lilian Makandi dated February 22, Mijungu’s departure followed the management’s approval of his request for an early contract termination, submitted just days after joining TV47.
Mijungu had formally written to the management on Friday, February 21, seeking time off to reflect on his engagement with the company.
''We acknowledge receipt of your email dated February 21, 2025, in which you requested time off to reflect on your engagement with the company,'' the letter read in part.
''Having considered the matter, Management has taken the decision to revoke the Service Agreement dated January 31, 2025. This decision takes effect from February 22, 2025.''
However, Cape Media CEO Makandi in her letter wished Mijungu success, revealing that the station would be excited to work with him, should he reconsider his decision.
''This development notwithstanding, we shall be pleased to engage with you on future possibilities. The management wishes you the best in your future endeavours,'' the letter added.
Our attempts to contact Mijungu for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to our messages.
Mijungu joined TV47 in January 2025, just days after announcing his departure from Standard Group’s KTN, where he had served for four years.
However, his employment at TV47 was announced on the TV station’s social media accounts on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke after his exit from KTN, Mijungu revealed that his departure was contract-related, stating, ''I did not renew my contract.''
Mijungu, who is not only a journalist but also a lawyer, began his career at CCTV Africa before joining Mediamax Network Ltd, where he worked at K24 for nearly four years. During his time there, he served as a news desk reporter, business talk anchor, and talk show host.
He later moved to Nation Media Group (NTV) as a senior reporter before transitioning to Standard Media Group in 2020, where he worked as a news anchor and current affairs host.
