Former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over remarks he made regarding the supposed planned ouster of Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Taking to social media hours after Gachagua threatened to call for protests if CJ Koome is removed from office, Havi dared the former DP to attack him instead of President William Ruto as it was 'his war'.
"Why is Rigathi Gachagua threatening President William Ruto over the removal of the recalcitrant Martha Koome from office?" Havi asked.
"Let him threaten and order protests against me. I have been consistent on the unsuitability of Koome from the day she applied for the office of CJ. It is my war."
Speaking at a church service in Meru on Sunday, Gachagua launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto reportedly scheming to unseat CJ Koome from office.
The former DP accused his former boss of trying to purge leaders from the Mount Kenya region who helped ascend him to power in 2022 and called for mass protests if Koome is removed.
"We know he is planning to impeach Koome. This is too much now. How do you purge the leadership of an entire community that made you president?" Gachagua quipped.
"If Koome is dismissed and I call for protests, will you come out? We are not going to sit again as Ruto destroys the leadership of Mount Kenya."
These remarks did not sit well with Havi who has been fighting to dethrone Koome from power for months. After ultimatums to resign failed to materialise, Havi moved to court seeking the removal of Koome and the other six Supreme Court judges citing gross misconduct and abuse of office among others.
However, his push for the removal of the seven Apex judges hit a roadblock when the High Court in Nairobi issued conservatory orders barring the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) just two days after a Narok court issued similar orders.
"That a conservatory order is hereby issued staying and/or suspending JSC Petition No. 35 of 2024—Dari Limited & 5 others vs Hon. Chief Justice Karambu Koome & 6 Others and JSC Petition No. 3 of 2025 Nelson Havi vs Hon. Chief Justice Martha Karambu Koome & 6 Others pending the hearing and determination of this Application inter partes,” Justice Mugambi ruled.
