The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Uhuru Highway in Nairobi County between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts.

The KeNHA boss disclosed that disruption would be occasioned by the planned procession to commemorate World Engineering Day by the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).

“KeNHA would like to inform the public of a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway at the section between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts on the Mombasa-bound carriageway on Tuesday, March 4, 2025,” the KeNHA boss warned.

To address the impending traffic crisis, the authority advised motorists heading in the Mombasa direction to exit Uhuru Highway at the Boulevard Hotel and use the Harry Thuku Road and into Moi Avenue, then Kenyatta Avenue, and proceed to the highway at the Kenyatta Avenue roundabout.

Alternatively, motorists were urged to join the University Way roundabout onto Nyerere Road, then Processional Wa,y and Kenyatta Avenue to rejoin the closed highway at Kenyatta Avenue roundabout.

Meanwhile, motorists planning to use the highway were urged to be cautious while approaching the section of the road and follow the proposed traffic management plan.

Similarly, Ndung’u announced that police officers and traffic marshals would be deployed to guide motorists and take action on those going against the traffic rules.

“KeNHA advises motorists to approach the section with caution and follow the proposed traffic management plan herein as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the KeNHA Director General stated.

In a separate notice issued on the same day, the Authority announced the temporary closure of Juja-Gatundu Road from Juja Stage Junction to Gatundu to allow for installation of the cross culvert from Friday, February 28, 2025, at 10pm to Monday, March 3, 2025, at 8pm.

According to KeNHA, Juja-Gatundu traffic will be diverted at Equity Afia Medical Centre in Juja Road to join the Jomo Kenyatta University Way roundabout and into Thika Superhighway as an alternative route.

"KeNHA advises motorists to exercise caution as they approach the work areas and follow the proposed traffic management plan herein as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," KeNHA stated.
