The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has cautioned applicants to be wary of fraudsters claiming to be placement agents.
This follows reports that some scammers were conning unsuspecting applicants by purporting to process applications for Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) for a fee.
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome, in a statement on Friday, March 7, advised applicants to use only the official placement service portal.
“Applications are to be submitted online on the KUCCPS student’s portal; applicants are advised to be vigilant to avoid becoming victims of online fraudsters,” Wahome told applicants.
She went on to urge those facing challenges in applying for teaching courses in TTCs to visit the KUCCPS offices, which are located at the ACK Garden House on 1st Ngong Avenue, Community Area, Nairobi.
Alternatively, applicants were advised to seek help from any of the 58 Huduma Centres across the country or visit any TTCs near them.
Minimum Requirements
On the minimum requirements, applicants seeking a chance in the primary TTCs must have at least a mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
Similarly, those seeking enrolment in the Diploma in Secondary Education are required to have a minimum of C+ in KCSE or equivalent.
Currently, three colleges are offering a Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education, with a capacity to admit 2,735 students, while the remaining 33 TTCs are offering a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education.
Meanwhile, candidates with other qualifications different from KCSE were advised to seek an equation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to enable them to apply.
According to the placement service, the ongoing application, whose application closes on March 20, is open to both Kenyans and non-Kenyan citizens.
“KUCCPS is encouraging interested and qualified Form Four leavers from the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort and those from previous years to apply for the slots,” KUCCPS announced.
