Nation Media Group has announced the appointment of former Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) CEO Geoffrey Odundo as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Odundo will assume his role at the Aga Khan-owned media house on April 7, 2025, following his appointment by the NMG Board of Directors.

''NMG board names Geoffrey Odundo as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 7th April 2025,'' a statement from the media group confirmed.

Odundo will be joining NMG, one of the largest media houses in the East African region from the financial sector where he has had quite a remarkable stint.

Before joining NMG, he was serving in an advisory role at the Central Provident Fund Board (CPF)—a financial service. He joined CPF in May last year.

Additionally, he served at several banks in the country with a combined experience of over 30 years as a banker and security exchange markets expert.

Odundo led the NSE for nine years until February 2024 during which he oversaw the expansion of products on offer to investors at the bourse, including the establishment of the region’s first derivatives market.

Odundo holds a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Economics from Egerton University, and an MBA in Strategic Management from USIU Africa and is currently pursuing a PhD in Business Administration and Management at the University of Nairobi.

The financial expert will succeed interim CEO Richard Tobiko who assumed the role following the departure of former CEO Stephen Gitagama in July 2024.

Gitagama joined NMG in September 2007 as the Group Finance Director, a position he held until his promotion to Group CEO in June 2018.

NMG has in the recent past underwent changes as it attempts to realign with the digital revolution that the media industry has been witnessing.

Odundo will be joining the group's Editor-in-Chief Joe Ageyo where they are expected to steer the group to financial success. Recent talents who joined NMG include veteran journalist Eric Latiff from Standard Group, Simaloi Dajom, and Janet Mbugua.
