Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced a temporary three-day closure on City Hall Way between City Hall Way Roundabout and Parliament Roundabout.

According to a statement dated March 15, the closure will occur between March 17 and March 20 and allow for preparations for the WRC Safari Rally.

"The WRC Safari Rally wishes to inform the public of a temporary road closure on City Hall Way, from City Hall Way Roundabout to Parliament Roundabout," part of the statement read.

"This closure will be in effect from Monday, 17th March 2025, at 8:00 PM to Thursday, 20th March 2025, at 3:00 PM, to facilitate the setup and hosting of the WRC Safari Rally Opening Ceremony."

The notice further urged motorists accustomed to using the route to plan ahead and take alternative routes. It also urged them to cooperate with police and traffic marshals who would be deployed in the area to tackle traffic.

"Motorists are advised to plan their journey in advance or use alternative routes, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow," the statement concluded.

This is not the first time Nairobi Central Business District will be facing a major traffic disruption to accommodate sporting events. Previously, major roads have been closed to facilitate marathon events stretching across the city.

However, other events have also led to temporary road closures, such as the World Engineering Day procession on March 4, when the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) announced a one-and-a-half-hour closure of a section of Uhuru Highway.

“KeNHA would like to inform the public of a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway at the section between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts on the Mombasa-bound carriageway on Tuesday, March 4, 2025," KeNHA warned.

Another major road facing a temporary closure is the Mombasa-Mtwapa-Kilifi Road which was announced a few days ago to facilitate the construction of the New Mbogolo Bridge.

According to the authority, the temporary closure will begin on Tuesday, March 18, and end on Tuesday, April 1. Motorists were also notified that they would be redirected to the old Mbogolo Bridge route until the project's completion.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that the Mombasa Mtwapa-Kilifi Road at the New Mbogolo Bridge will be closed to enable the completion of the bridge. The closure will commence on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, at midnight and end on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, at midnight," part of the statement read.
