The Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) has issued a notice to over 100 business companies whose goods have been lying at the authority's warehouses without being picked.
In a notice published on the gazette notice, KRA cautioned the companies to clear the goods and have them removed from its premises within a month or risk being auctioned.
The goods include various assortments that were to be delivered to Kenya and neighbouring South Sudan and are currently being held in shipping vessels at the KRA Customs Warehouse Keeper and the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi.
The goods, including upholstery materials, electronics, industrial machinery, and textiles, will be sold through a public auction in May this year.
Other items set for auction include sugar, biscuits, kitchenware, automotive lubricants, cigarettes, and meat products.
Additionally, the list features aluminium solar mounting systems, electric motor spare parts, and various grocery products.
"Pursuant to the provisions of Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, as amended (EACCMA 2004), notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot, Nairobi, within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA 2004," read part of the notice by KRA.
The statement further added, "The goods, including upholstery materials, electronics, industrial machinery, and textiles, will be sold through a public auction on 5 May 2025, 6 May 2025, 7 May 2025, 8 May 2025, and 9 May 2025 via the online portal ."
Additionally, interested buyers have been advised to view the goods at specific locations indicated on April 30, 2025, and May 2, 2025, during office hours.
The goods, mainly in shipping container vessels, will be auctioned at various locations, including Syokimau Inland Container Depot, Autoport, and the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi. The containers are in 40-foot and 20-foot sizes.
On March 11, KRA announced a public auction of various items, including sofa sets, chairs, car parts, and other goods, to be conducted on Wednesday, March 26, this week.
The auction, which will be held online in partnership with Phillips International Auctioneers, aims to dispose of obsolete furniture, office equipment, and other assorted goods stored in various KRA warehouses across the country.
