Kajiado Central detectives have arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing a lorry carrying maize worth Ksh 1.7 million after the driver was supposedly drugged.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI) on March 24 stated that the lorry driver had parked at Maduka ya Juu in Kajiado where he was with a woman he knew, who had joined him at the Namanga border.

"As detailed in a police report filed on March 19, the theft occurred when the lorry driver packed at Maduka ya Juu in Kajiado. Accompanying him was a woman physically known to him who had joined the journey at the Namanga border," the detectives stated.

When he stepped away to use the restroom, he returned to find the woman holding two soft drinks. After drinking one, he started feeling dizzy and fell asleep inside the truck.

Upon waking up the next day, he found himself lying on the ground and both the lorry and the woman were nowhere to be seen.

Detectives quickly began investigations and found the stolen lorry abandoned in Embakasi, Nairobi, without its cargo. After gathering more evidence, they arrested three suspects two females and a male.

"Swiftly investigation led to crucial forensic breakthroughs, culminating in the recovery of the lorry stripped of its cargo and abandoned in Embakasi," DCI added.

According to the detectives, the stolen maize was offloaded in Kiandutu, Thika, and later sold to a miller in Makongeni.

Officers involved in the case confirmed that the miller was called to Kajiado to uncover the full scope of the crime.

The lorry driver is still in custody, helping detectives with the investigation as the three suspects are being processed and will be taken to court soon.

In a separate incident, detectives arrested two suspects in Kajiado county for trying to steal 6,000 litres of diesel worth Ksh1.2 million.

The incident took place around 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, when the suspects arrived at the fuel station with an NPR tanker, which is typically used to transport diesel.

Posing as customers, the pair told the pump attendant that they had made a deposit of Ksh1.2 million to the station's owner and that there were instructions to have 6,000 litres of diesel deposited into the tanker.

The attendant, on suspecting something was amiss, contacted his boss and realised that no deposits had been made to his account. He then alerted his colleagues who aided him in cornering the suspects.
