Senior Presidential Economic Council advisor Moses Kuria has announced that boda boda riders and Community Health Promoters (CHPs) who will help enroll the public for the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme will be rewarded.

In an X post on Wednesday, April 2, Kuria said that any member of the boda boda fraternity and CHPs who will help other Kenyans join and start making payments to SHA will be awarded a Ksh20 commission.

Additionally, Kuria noted that the government has also rolled out a programme that will see the daily deductions of small amounts from mobile money for SHA payments.

"Every CHP or Boda Boda that assists Members to join SHA and start making payments to get Ksh20 commission," he said.

"We have also launched a programme for daily deduction of small amounts from mobile money to pay for SHA," he added. According to Kuria, the government aims to enroll 40 million Kenyans in SHA by the end of the year.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, a total of 20.8 million Kenyans have registered with the SHA, along with 5.7 million of their dependents.

The announcement comes a day after Kuria branded SHA as a huge success and claimed that other African countries, including Zambia and Egypt, are benchmarking the health scheme.

According to Kuria, a delegation from the Zambian government visited the country last month to learn about the programme, and another one from Egypt is expected to arrive next week for the same.

"The Taifa Care is for every Kenyan, not a particular individual, and that is why I am very passionate about the programme," he said.

"Two weeks ago, the Zambian government sent a delegation to come and benchmark how we are conducting our healthcare programmes, and also Egypt will be here next week to see what we are doing," he added.

Kuria further said that he is confident that President William Ruto would be awarded the Nobel Prize for launching the programme.

Furthermore,  the CS, who spoke in a press briefing on Tuesday, April 1, said a total of Ksh25.4 billion has been paid by SHA to the empanelled and contracted health facilities.

"Paymentst out of the Social Health Insurance Fund stood at Ksh22.2 billion, and payments out of the Primary Healthcare Fund stood at Ksh 3.2 billion," he said.

The government aims to enrol 40 million people in SHA by the end of the year in its efforts to attain the Universal Health Care (UHC) goal, according to Kuria.
