The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned Kenyans against sharing images of the crash that led to the deaths of 13 people along the Kaplong-Litein Road.
In a statement on Saturday night, the authority confirmed that emergency services had completed their work at the accident scene and that the injured were receiving treatment.
"As we condole with the families and friends of the victims, we humbly request members of the public to show respect and desist from sharing images of the crash," the NTSA statement read.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) has announced that investigations into the accident are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
According to NPS, preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred as a result of a head-on collision between a public service vehicle and a lorry.
The service also urged road users to maintain extreme caution to avoid similar accidents from reoccurring.
"The National Police Service urges all road users to take personal responsibility and exercise caution by adhering to traffic rules, particularly on overtaking and speed limits," the NPS statement read.
The accident, which occurred in the Cheptangulke area of Bomet County, took 13 lives and left 11 others nursing serious injuries.
It involved three vehicles: a personal car, a 14-seater matatu, and a truck, which collided with each other, leading to the immediate deaths of 13.
Since then, Kenyans led by local leaders have taken to social media to condole with the bereaved families after images of the aftermath flooded social media platforms showing damages to the matatu, which had a shattered windscreen, broken seats and windows, and deflated tyres.
The truck involved in the accident was recorded leaning on one side across the road and damaged on its front side, while the personal car was also reduced to a wreck.
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok confirmed the accident, stating that rescue personnel had arrived at the scene to save the survivors and rush them to neighbouring hospitals.
