The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) has announced a nationwide mass recruitment exercise for constables slated for Wednesday, April 30, and for professional cadet officers, technicians, and artisans to be made online.

In a notice published in the local dailies on Monday, April 7, the service reported that the exercise would be carried out across all the counties in the country.

"The Kenya Prisons Service wishes to announce to the public that there will be a recruitment exercise of prisons constables (male & female) on 30th April 2025," part of the statement read.

According to the notice, professional cadet officer applicants should hold a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognised institution of higher learning, while technician applicants should have a relevant certificate/diploma and be registered with the relevant bodies where applicable.

Kenya Prison further stated that artisan applicants should have a minimum mean grade of D+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a certificate in Government Trade Test Grade I/II from a recognised institution or a certificate in a craft or its equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.

Professional cadets positions available include medical officers, psychiatrists, pharmacists and civil engineers, while technicians positions available are animal health officers, agricultural and horticultural officers among others.

Artisans needed include carpenters, interior designers, hairdressers, plumbers, etc.

To qualify for either of the positions, men should be at least five feet and four inches tall, while women should be five feet and two inches tall and not pregnant at the time of recruitment. All applicants should be physically and mentally fit, with clear vision and good hearing.

Those interested in the latter three positions should fill out the PSC.2 form, which can be accessed at the public service official website, and attach clear photocopies of academic and professional certificates and ID cards.

The applications should then be sent to the commissioner general of prisons before April 30. Shortlisted candidates will be notified through print media.

To qualify for the constable position, one must be a Kenyan citizen with a valid identification (ID) card between the ages of 18 and 28 and have a clean record. Academically, they should have a KCSE examination grade of D+ (plus) and above.

Prospective candidates have been advised to carry their original national ID cards, birth certificates, KRA PIN certificates, academic certificates, and other testimonials on the day of recruitment.

The recruitment will be free, and applicants have been warned against engaging in any bribery practices, including presenting falsified or fake academic certificates and fake professional certificates or identity cards, as this will lead to immediate disqualification and even prosecution.

Once qualified, constables, technicians and artisans will undergo nine months of training while cadets will undergo 13 months of the same.

The constable recruitment exercise will be carried out in all 47 counties across the country. In Nairobi, this will be at Nyayo Stadium, Ndurarua Stadium, Jacaranda Grounds, Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, and NYS Headquarters, among others.
