A 40-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, April 10, after terrorising the residents of the Lokichar Township with a string of robbery with violence crimes.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that a tip-off by the residents necessitated a launch of investigations into the matter.
He was ultimately apprehended at his residence in Kapese village, upon which a search of his premises unearthed several items linked to his crimes.
An AK-47 rifle was recovered alongside an AK-47 magazine and seven rounds of ammunition.
Multiple motorcycle frames, a car wash pressure pump, a solar inverter, and a white TATA double cab, among other items, were also recovered during the search.
The recovered items were securely detained as exhibits, and the case is still pending in court.
Most notably, an AK-47 is the standard issue service weapon for police officers and military personnel in the country.
This arrest comes just a few weeks after DCI officers cornered two police officers suspected to have been involved in a robbery with violence crime.
The crime, which took place in Nairobi's Githurai, involved the two officers and a civilian accomplice who were caught in the act of pinning down the victim.
Their counterparts from the Githurai Police Station, who were on regular night patrol, came upon the scene on the Githurai-Soweto Railway Line.
A few months later, armed robbers trailed President William Ruto's motorcade during his Nairobi County development tour and ambushed stranded motorists along Thika Road.
On Saturday, March 15, a total of 38 suspects from the robberies were apprehended by the DCI and taken into custody across various police stations after terrorising residents along Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road.
Seven motorcycles believed to have been used in the robberies were recovered, along with several mobile phones stolen from victims.
