The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has flagged as fake a Facebook group purporting to represent the service's 2025 enrolment.
In a social media post on Sunday, April 13, KUCCPS flagged two posts from the group and warned applicants to not fall for impersonators on sites.
In one such post, the Facebook group claimed that the placement service had revised its cut-off points for the education course, which would eliminate students with a C+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
According to the fake post, this would lead to several students missing out on placement in public universities, leading them to consider private universities instead.
"KUCCPS have revised their cut-off points for education, and the current ones C+ students interested in education might miss out. This is due to the raise of cut-off points, which many aren't considering," the fake post read.
"The current cut-off points are 27 and above in public universities. This means you can only do a degree in education with a C+ if you go to a private institution. Make informed decisions."
The flagged group, dubbed KUCCPS UPDATES 2025 SEPTEMBER INTAKE, currently has 193,000 members, and members often share advice on the application process, which KUCCPS now says is false.
On March 25, KUCCPS released the eligibility criteria for applicants looking to pursue a degree course, citing that all those who scored C+ are eligible for degree courses.
An initial rumour that the government had raised the entry requirements for education courses was quickly quashed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
In reports that quickly spread on social media in January, it was alleged that under the new guidelines, students must achieve a minimum grade of B- in at least two teaching subjects.
This was unlike in other years when students only needed to have a mean grade of C+ and a C+ in both teaching subjects to qualify.
The claims were spread long before the KCSE results were released and the KUCCPS opened its portal to allow for applications.
