The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has urged candidates who qualified to join university to submit their applications before the deadline.
This comes after Ministry of Education officials expressed concern that more than half of the students who scored Grade C+ and above had yet to submit their applications.
Addressing the press on Thursday, April 17, officials from the Ministry of Education, KUCCPS, and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) urged candidates to utilise the remaining two weeks to apply for their preferred courses.
According to KUCCPS Director for Placement and Career Development, John Oluoch, more than 100,000 candidates who qualified to join university had not submitted their applications.
Out of the 246,000 students who attained Grade C+ and above, only 104,000 candidates had successfully submitted their applications, with less than a fortnight remaining before the portal closes.
"We are nearly getting to half of the total number of students, so we are urging those who have not been able to do so to apply, and they should not wait for the last minute to struggle and access the portal," Oluoch told candidates.
During the press briefing, Oluoch dismissed claims that the low number of course applications was due to system downtime experienced by candidates during the application process.
To further boost the application, Oluoch announced that the placement service had dispatched officials across the country to help applicants who were facing challenges.
He reiterated that KUCCPS officials had traversed various counties to engage students and their parents on the urgency and importance of registering for their preferred courses within the set timelines.
"These officers are supporting students and parents to apply so that they are not left out of the application," the KUCCPS Director of Placement noted.
The latest development comes almost a month after KUCCPS formally opened its portal for the 2025 university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) placement.
KUCCPS, in a notice dated March 28, called on the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for their preferred courses.
While inviting applications, the placement service stated that the application portal would remain open for four weeks, with the application window closing on April 30, 2025.
