Police in Kisumu East are looking for a man who attacked and stabbed his 24-year-old girlfriend after she dumped him.

According to reports by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the man, unable to accept that his ex had moved on, followed her to her new boyfriend's home in Nyakbong' village.

The attack, which occurred at 4:45 pm on Friday, left the young woman fighting for her life after being stabbed twice, once in the ear and once in the chest.

"Preliminary information provided by neighbours to the police indicated that the assailant was unhappy after being left by his ex-girlfriend for a better choice, leading him to ambush her while she was alone in her new boyfriend's house," the DCI report revealed in part.

The suspect had intended to kill his former lover, but the woman's screams prompted neighbours to intervene and disrupt the attack before he could complete the act.

Upon arriving at the house, the neighbours found the man in the middle of the assault but quickly managed to rescue the lady from his grasp.

The suspect immediately fled the scene, leaving the victim severely bleeding.

She was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Training and Referral Hospital in critical condition, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Police, in conjunction with community members, are actively searching for the suspect to ensure he is brought to justice.

The attack comes at a time when Kenya is intensifying efforts to combat domestic violence and the rising cases of femicide in the country.

In response to the growing issue, President William Ruto recently established a 42-member Technical Working Group to combat gender-based violence and femicide.

Led by Dr. Nancy Baraza, the committee is tasked with analysing trends, strengthening legal frameworks, and proposing actionable measures to address the problem.
