The Kenya Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday, April 22, invited Kenyans for a countrywide public auction for the sale of obsolete, surplus and unserviceable items.

Through a newspaper notice, KeNHA revealed that interested bidders should visit their various weighbridges and offices across the country for the next 24 days to bid for the items.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) hereby invites interested bidders for the Sale of Obsolete, Surplus and Unserviceable Items in the following KeNHA Regional Offices, Weighbridges and Centres through Public Auction,” KeNHA stated.

At the same time, the authority issued six guidelines for the interested bidders, as well as providing additional details on how the bidders can go about the process.

Firstly, to obtain a bidding number, KeNHA interested bidders must deposit a refundable fee of Ksh50,000 for scrap metal and Kshs5,000 for other lots in cash to KeNHA at the cash office at the auction centre by 10 am before being allowed to bid. The deposits for unsuccessful bidders will be refunded.

Further, the Authority directed that the successful bidder must pay 25 per cent of the purchase price in cash or deposit in the KeNHA bank account provided in the catalogue at the fall of the hammer, and the balance to be paid within 14 days.

Viewing dates for the auctions are April 22 to May 16, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm during the weekdays prior to the auction, with Trenad Auctioneers being the appointed auctioneer.

As per KeNHA, reservations have been made for youth, women, and persons with disabilities. Additionally, sales are subject to reserved prices, and the goods are sold on an "as-is-where-is" basis.

Centers where the public auction will be conducted include the KeNHA head office, Athi River, Isinya, and Juja weighbridge. The dates and times for the auctions are set for May 7 and 8 at 11:00 AM, respectively.

Other weighbridges that interested bidders can visit are Webuye, Busia, Rongo, Mtwapa, Dongo-Kundu, Mariakani, and Suswa. The set dates for the auctions are May 12, 13, 15, and 16, respectively.
