The knife-wielding Garissa Member of County Assembly (MCA) who attacked residents at a restaurant has spoken out over the bizarre incident, providing fresh details.

According to the MCA, he was escaping from a group of men who had ganged up on him just outside the restaurant.

The MCA disclosed that the altercation came after a dispute over a parking space. The MCA added that the dispute turned physical, prompting the need for the knife.

While pleading his innocence, the MCA came forward and took responsibility for the incident, citing his past decades of experience in the military. The MCA asked for forgiveness over the incident that went viral online.

“I apologise on behalf of all the customers and on behalf of all the people in Garissa County. I had no bad intentions and I was only defending myself,” he stated.

According to authorities, CCTV footage corroborated the MCA’s account. As per the police, who have commenced investigations, the footage showed the MCA on the ground as the group sought to assault him.

The police further cautioned against spreading fake news after reports of the MCA’s alleged arrest emerged.

On Tuesday, May 20, in CCTV obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the Garissa-based MCA was captured on video dramatically storming an establishment while brandishing a knife and chasing a group of terrified women.

The footage, dated May 17, 2025, initially shows two women rushing into the restaurant in distress before the MCA follows seconds later, swinging the knife with one hand.

Things turned more alarming as the MCA was seen on camera aggressively pursuing the women around the dining area and into the restaurant's kitchen, disrupting normal services at the establishment.

Inevitably, the altercation caused panic and confusion, with staff and patrons seen on CCTV scattering for safety. At some point, a mild stampede erupted at the entrance of the restaurant as customers and staff tried to flee from the chaos.

The MCA appeared undeterred by the chaos he had caused and continued tearing down the restaurant by tossing chairs. He eventually stops his rampage before making his way to the kitchen, where he oddly salutes a group of individuals before marching out while still holding the knife.

While no one was severely hurt from the incident, the three-minute video caused outrage online, with sections of Kenyans calling for legal action to be taken against the lawmaker, whose behaviour was described as reckless and dangerous.
