A Nairobi County law enforcement officer has died after slipping and falling from the sixth floor of the City Hall Annex, which hosts the city's Governor, Johnson Sakaja.
In the incident which occurred on Saturday afternoon, the officer who was clad in a navy blue uniform, fell and landed on the pavement outside the county offices.
Footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the deceased attempting to jump from the building's rooftop to the sixth floor before he suddenly tripped and fell.
Images of the scene depicted the man lying dead on the pavement and covered in a red cloth, with a huge crowd, including police officers, surrounding the scene in shock.
While the cause of the incident is yet to be established, a section of Kenyans claimed that the occurrence could be a mistaken fall or a rare case of suicide.
Moments later, Nairobi Central police boss Stephen Okal, accompanied by other officers, arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to pave the way for investigations.
Following the incident, the officer, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was taken to the Nairobi Funeral Home awaiting identification and a post-mortem.
The officer's death comes amid rising cases of people falling from high-rise buildings across the country, particularly in Nairobi city. Just six days ago, a boy succumbed after falling from a storey building in Nairobi's Eastleigh Estate.
Reports indicate that the 8-year-old boy fell from the 16th floor of a building that is next to the Carlifonia Police Station along Keroe Street.
In the case which occurred on May 25, the building's CCTV captured the boy climbing from the 14th floor to the 16th floor only to trip and fall. He died on the spot after nursing serious head and limb injuries.
In a separate but similar occurrence on May 8, a construction worker died after falling from the 7th floor of a high-rise building in Eastleigh Estate.
The 42-year-old was among a group of masons who were working a construction site located along Galore Street when he slipped and fell. Attempts to rush him to the hospital proved futile after he died upon arrival.
