The Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) has announced the mass auction of vehicles and motorcycles that the agency recovered following the various criminal cases.
ARA noted that Kenyans can purchase motor vehicles, motorcycles, and other assets through a public auction set for this month.
In a public notice, displayed at My Gov on Tuesday, June 3, the agency confirmed that it will auction the assets, which were recovered under the provisions of the Proceeds of Crime and Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA).
ARA said that the assets will be sold on an "as-is-where-is" basis on Wednesday, June 18, starting at 10.00 am.
ARA recovers assets by first identifying and tracing proceeds of crime, then initiating court proceedings to freeze, seize, forfeit, and ultimately confiscate those assets. This process is based on the POCAMLA. The agency works with auctioneers to sell forfeited assets through public auctions.
Those interested in purchasing the items have been encouraged to view them from Tuesday, 3rd June, 2025, to Friday, 13th June, 2025, at the venues which will be indicated in the auction catalogue.
According to the agency, interested bidders will be required to place a refundable auctioning deposit of Ksh1,000,000 for them to obtain a bidding number from the appointed auctioneer, M/s Keysian Auctioneers.
Bidders have been directed to obtain an auction catalogue from the agency, which contains the locations where one can view the assets and the venue of the auction.
"A catalogue containing detailed information may be obtained from the Assets Recovery Agency Offices on the 21st Floor of the Old Mutual Towers upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Kenya Shillings One Thousand Only (Kshs 1,000.00) payable as direct deposit to the under-listed account," ARA stated.
A successful bidder will be required to pay a deposit of 25 per cent of the purchase price at the fall of the hammer as part of the auction conditions. The auction deposit, according to ARA, shall be treated as part of the payment for the successful bidder.
Furthermore, successful bidders will be required to pay the remaining 75 per cent of the purchase price within 14 days after the public auction to the Criminal Assets Recovery Fund Account.
Successful bidders will further be required to collect the motor vehicles within 14 days after the auction; failure to which the individual being required to pay the storage charges and other prevailing rates.
ARA is a government body that has been mandated with the primary role of combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing by identifying, tracing, freezing, seizing, and confiscating proceeds of crime.
