President William Ruto has directed that 20 per cent of the government-constructed affordable housing units will be given to the disciplined forces, including the Kenya Defence Forces and the police.

Speaking during a public address, Ruto said the allocation would be ringfenced to ensure that members of the security sector benefit directly from state-backed housing projects.

The move is intended to provide long-term stability for officers who often face housing challenges, particularly in high-cost urban areas where government housing has historically been inadequate.

"As part of our policy program, I want to announce that 20 per cent of our housing units being developed under the affordable housing programme will go to the disciplined forces. These will be ringfenced for our members of the disciplined forces from the military, National Police, Kenya Prisons, and National Youth Service," Ruto directed.

The Head of State noted that the government was also introducing flexible and subsidised financing options to ease homeownership for officers under the programme.

Under the new arrangement, officers will access single-digit interest rate loans—three per cent for those purchasing social housing, six per cent for affordable housing, and nine per cent for those buying high-market units.

"In addition, these officers will benefit from affordable financing through single-digit interest rates. This will be as low as three per cent for those who will buy social housing, six per cent for affordable housing, and nine per cent for those who will buy high-market houses," he said.

Meanwhile, Ruto revealed that the government has constructed a total of 2,000 housing units for police officers nationwide.

Additionally, he revealed that the government has initiated the procurement process for the construction of an additional 17,000 housing units for the officers.

Furthermore, for the KDF, 3,000 housing units are already under construction, while an additional 10,000 units have been signed off.

During Tuesday's visit to Industrial Area, Nairobi County, for the launch of the Central Bank of Kenya Police Housing Complex, Ruto officially opened several new units—including 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom fully furnished apartments.

These homes are designed to provide dignified and decent living conditions for police officers assigned to the CBK.
