Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned the recent violent attack on nominated Member of County Assembly Jacinta Mwoni, accusing a Member of Parliament of orchestrating the assault through politically motivated goons.
Tension gripped mourners in Kitui East on Saturday after a funeral ceremony turned chaotic when a group of angry youths attacked the Wiper-nominated MCA.
The MCA had publicly endorsed Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the 2027 presidency.
In a viral video that made the rounds online, four heavily built men stormed toward the MCA just as she was concluding her tribute. The situation escalates rapidly as the men forcefully snatch the microphone from her hands, shoving her in the process, and sending shockwaves through the crowd.
In an official statement signed by the Wiper Party SG on behalf of the party leader, Kalonzo condemned the attacks, terming them as gender violence and thuggery of the highest order.
''The violent assault on Hon. Jacinta Mwoni, carried out by goons linked to an MP, is not just a criminal act; it is a disgusting display of brute misogyny and political thuggery,'' the party wrote.
The party described the attack as a long list of deliberate assaults imposed on women in leadership, invalidating their rights to speech and rightful leadership positions for their views.
''It is one more case in a long list of attacks on women in leadership. A warning to women: Speak out and we will hurt you. We see it. And we are calling it out for what it is, gender-based violence in politics, carried out by cowards who fear women with opinions," the party continued.
The attacks unfolded in the presence of the prominent leader, with Wiper leadership accusing him of failing to take any action despite the unfortunate incident. The assault was carried out by individuals alleged to be linked to his camp, raising concerns about accountability and political violence.
The Kalonzo-led party has called for immediate legal action against the perpetrators, demanding that the MP be held accountable for his alleged role in the incident.
“This is not leadership, it is thuggery in a suit,” the statement declared.
On her part, Mwoni has also called for immediate action against the perpetrators and condemned the attack, saying it is politically orchestrated against women in leadership.
