Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been handed some reprieve after a High Court issued a conservatory order halting a planned impeachment by Members of the County Assembly.
In a crucial ruling, Justice Heston Nyaga stated that an affidavit filed by the governor's team raised substantive issues that warranted judicial intervention.
While certifying the application as urgent, the judge further directed that it should be served to all respondents by close of business on Tuesday, June 17.
"Pending the hearing and determination of this application inter partes, a conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the respondents or their agents from admitting, processing, debating, or considering the Notice of Motion dated June 10, 2025, regarding the proposed impeachment of the Governor of Isiolo County," Justice Nyaga ruled.
The respondents in this case include the County Assembly of Isiolo and its speaker, who have been given seven days to file their responses, after which the governor, who is the petitioner, will be granted three days after receiving the responses to file and serve a supplementary affidavit.
Further, the County Assembly was ordered by the High Court to serve the petitioner with a copy of the impeachment notice and all supporting documents within 48 hours of being served with the court order.
The latest ruling swings odds into Governor Guyo's favour, and it comes barely a day after reports emerged claiming Isiolo MCAs had gone into hiding for fear of their lives after supporting the impeachment motion.
Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana filed the initial motion seeking to oust the governor. In the motion, Governor Guyo was accused of gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution, and abuse of office.
The motion alleged that the governor presided over stalled development projects and failed to meet county revenue targets. He is also accused of mismanaging county appointments.
Accusations of county appointments specifically alluded to an appointment of 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, despite Isiolo County being one of the lowest recipients of national revenue allocations.
Interestingly, the motion garnered near-unanimous backing, with a whopping 18 MCAs, including those allied to the governor, backing it.
Days after the motion, a report claimed sections of the MCAs were relocated from Isiolo to Nakuru and later to Machakos, ahead of the impeachment vote.
Burat MCA Nicholas Lorot claimed on Sunday that some of the County Assembly members were allegedly being trailed by vehicles bearing armed individuals as they were in transit from Nakuru to Machakos.
