Petrol Station, Motor Vehicles Put on Auction as Kenyans Feel Economic Pinch

Several auctioneers have put up various items for sale, including motor vehicles and a petrol station, as tough economic times continue to bite.

In a notice published in the local dailies, one auctioneering company listed several motor vehicles for sale by public auction, with prices starting as low as Ksh200,000.

Among the lowest-priced vehicles is a 2008 Mazda Axela BK5P, going for Ksh294,000; a Subaru Forester S15 Auto at Ksh244,000, available at Eldoret Supermax Storage Services; and a 2003 Toyota TownAce KR42 priced at Ksh293,000.

Other vehicles include a Toyota Wish ZNE10 at Wachenya Yard in Kitale, priced at Ksh373,000; a Toyota IST at Jogoo Road Motors, available for Ksh292,000; and a 2007 Subaru Impreza going for Ksh379,000.

For Kenyans looking to own affordable luxury vehicles, the auctioneer has listed a Nissan X-Trail at Ksh795,000, a 2014 BMW X1 sDrive20i B48 at Ksh994,000, a 2016 Audi Q3 at Ksh1.4 million, and a Honda Stream at Ksh371,000.

For those interested in smaller units, the auctioneer is offering a Nissan Juke at Ksh690,000, available at Mutech Auto Garage in Murang’a; a 2015 Nissan Note at Ksh554,000; and a Toyota Passo priced at Ksh254,000 and Ksh345,000.

The auctioneer also offers for those interested in the transport sector, with a wide range of cars to choose from. 

There are two Isuzu D-Max TIR 86 pickups available at Ksh2.5 million and Ksh1.4 million, a 2011 Nissan Caravan priced at Ksh541,000, and a Toyota TownAce KR42 going for Ksh293,000.

The vehicles will be sold by way of private treaty, and interested parties are invited to submit their offers for the listed motor vehicles. The submission of offers will officially close at noon on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, a petrol station located along Garissa Road in Makongeni, Thika, has been put up for auction as part of a repossession exercise targeting commercial properties in Kiambu County.

The property, measuring approximately 0.507 acres, is developed with a full-service fuel station and auxiliary buildings. It is located near key landmarks, including the International College of Technology and a Shell service station.

“This is a prime commercial spot with existing infrastructure in place, making it a valuable investment for interested buyers. The leasehold title is registered under A.O. Basid Ltd,” read part of the auction notice.
