Wanjiku Thiga, another ally of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has been arrested.

Thiga, who serves as the National Youth Leader and member of the National Executive Committee of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), is said to be held at the Ruiru Police Station, according to Kirinyaga County Woman Rep Njeri Maina.

Thiga was arrested on Tuesday, July 1, at the Kamakis area in Ruiru, with news of her apprehension being spread by online users on X, formerly Twitter.

A post on Thiga's official X social media handle also shared a message at around 1:22pm on Tuesday, confirming her plight by simply stating, "I have been abducted at Kamakis."

While confirming Thiga's arrest, Njeri Maina was also critical of authorities, as she accused them of failing to disclose the potential charges Thiga was being detained for.

"Wanjiku Thiga is being held at Ruiru police station; the officers within the station claim not to know what they’re holding her for," Njeri Maina revealed.

Thiga was appointed as the DCP Party's youth leader on May 15, on the eve of the unveiling of Gachagua's official political vehicle.

Since her appointment, she has been vocal about the party's endeavours on social media, while also endorsing some messages shared by activists who have previously crossed paths with the government.

One of her latest messages on social media was the publicization of the alleged abduction of another ally of Rigathi Gachagua, Peter Kawanjiru.

On Monday evening, she shared images of a commotion outside Kawanjiru's residence as she claimed unnamed officers were intent on forcibly taking him. Interestingly, Kawanjiru also holds a youth leader position at Gachagua's party.

"More than 10 DCI cars outside Peter Kinyanjui KaWanjiru's home in Limuru! They want to abduct him! Please retweet," Thiga shared on Monday evening.

Kawanjiru's family has since confirmed his abduction, revealing that tension escalated when the officers allegedly fired live rounds into the air, forcing the crowd to disperse. The standoff allegedly lasted for over four hours. His whereabouts are unknown.

While the reasons behind the detention of persons allied to Gachagua remain unknown, there is speculation that it could be linked to the recent mayhem witnessed on June 25, which the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently revealed was the work of well-orchestrated groups.

As far as Gachagua is concerned, DCI boss Amin Mohamed clarified on Monday that the former DP was not under investigation but would be subjected to a probe if he is found to be a person of interest in the case.
