A devastating road accident at Mlima Kiu, near Salama town on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, has left three people dead and several others nursing serious injuries.
The accident happened on Friday, July 4 evening, and involved a personal car, a truck, and two passenger Nissan matatus.
The accident unfolded when a truck travelling at high speed reportedly lost control while descending the steep Mlima Kiu section.
The truck veered off its lane and rammed into an oncoming personal vehicle before slamming into two passenger Nissans that were ferrying passengers to Nairobi.
The impact of the collision was disastrous. The truck is said to have crushed the smaller vehicles, leaving wreckage spread across the highway, according to images seen by Kenyans.co.ke.
Following the accident, 3 people, including a 10-year-old, were confirmed dead on the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders and bystanders rushed to the scene to assist the injured and retrieve the bodies of the deceased.
The injured were quickly rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital for emergency treatment.
Traffic along the busy highway was brought to a standstill for several hours as police and responders worked to clear the wreckages.
The accident comes just hours after yet another one that caused the death of a teacher in Mombasa County.
The teacher, who was accompanying students, died in the accident at the Maasai area along the Taita Taveta-Mombasa highway.
Following the unfortunate accident, two students were left with severe injuries while 10 others suffered minor injuries.
