The Directorate of Criminal Investigation has introduced a WhatsApp number to be used by citizens to share crime-related information.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, July 22, the DCI Director, Mohamed Amin, said that the public can now use the number 0709570000 to share any crime-related information anonymously via WhatsApp.
He added that the DCI will continue to offer the toll-free number 0800722203, which citizens can use to report crimes.
“The Fichua Kwa DCI centre has provided an anonymous and secure channel through which the public, both locally and internationally, can share intelligence on crime via our toll number 0800722203,” Amin said.
He added that the Fichua platforms have helped the DCI track many major criminal cases in the country.
“With our upgraded system, we are proud to announce that the public can now share confidential information through WhatsApp 070957000."
"This enhancement not only improves accessibility but also aligns with a goal of adopting rapid technological advancement in our crime-fighting methods and strategies,” he added.
The 'Fichua Kwa DCI' is a campaign run by the DCI to encourage individuals to report any crimes in the country.
It also provides a confidential way for people to provide information to the DCI without being identified.
The Fichua Kwa DCI is managed from the Fichua Centre, also known as Fichua Call Centre or Fichua Hotline Centre.
According to DCI, specially trained officers at the centre listen to anonymous callers, take notes, analyse reports, and pass useful information to the right DCI unit for action.
The DCI stated that the team is equipped and multilingual to handle reports from both within Kenya and abroad.
