Whistleblower Nelson Amenya, who exposed the Adani-JKIA deal, has claimed there is an alleged secretive plot to arm militias and stir ethnic conflict ahead of the much-anticipated 2027 General Election.

In a lengthy statement he shared on Wednesday, July 23,  Amenya claims that the alleged plot has the backing of powerful individuals in government.

While warning that the country is on a ticking time bomb, Amenya claimed that a secretive, well-connected network is allegedly working behind the scenes to manipulate the outcome of the August 2027 polls.

“A secretive political network is allegedly arming militias and plotting ethnic conflict to cling to power in 2027. Kenya is sitting on a ticking time bomb,” Amenya's post reads in part.

“Sources claim the group ramped up activity from the beginning of June 2024 and hatched an elaborate extrajudicial plan to influence voting patterns in certain regions.”

Amenya's claim comes off the back of a pledge he made last week to unmask politicians allegedly stockpiling weapons from Uganda and South Sudan in the North Rift for election violence.

While asserting the credibility of his revelation, the whistleblower claimed that the plot had backing of the powers that be, adding that the plot aims to retain the current government in power beyond 2027.

He cited political rhetoric made in the lead-up to the June 25 and Saba Saba protests by leaders allied to the current administration, where he accused them of stirring hate against certain communities.

More sensationally, Amenya claimed that the militias had already been set up, adding that one group has allegedly already been sworn by oath. He linked several influential politicians to the plot.

However, Amenya added that the group's plan had been leaked before his revelation, prompting them to take swift action to allay any rumours about their existence.

“The individuals involved allegedly restocked and quietly relocated the arms to new locations, continuing their preparations in secret,” Amenya alleged.

Amenya had earned plaudits nationwide after he somehow gained access to crucial documents detailing little-known particulars of the government's plan to lease JKIA to an Indian conglomerate, Adani Airport Holdings Limited.

The 30-year-old disclosed in 2024 that he received documents about the multi-billion-shilling deal from credible sources within government departments.
