Kennedy Kalombotole, the main suspect believed to be involved in the murder of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), will appear in court on Thursday, July 24.

He will be arraigned at Kibera Law Court, where authorities are set to present charges linking him to the two fatal incidents at KNH.

Kalombotole stands accused of two separate murders inside the hospital. He is accused of killing Edward Maingi Ndengwa on July 17 and another patient, Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, in February.

The two victims in-patients at KNH and were, in both instances, only found dead in their hospital beds.

Principal Magistrate Daisy Mutahi, who presided over an earlier court on July 21, directed that medical records from KNH and Nairobi Women's Hospital where Kalombotole was a patient be submitted by July 24.

The magistrate added that she needed clarity on the suspect's health status before determining whether the suspect will be held for another 21 days.

The court also approved the police's request to gather DNA samples, conduct an autopsy and take fingerprint records.

During the investigation, blood-stained bed sheets, footprints matching slippers found at the scene, a knife wrapped in gloves and the slippers themselves were found in Kalombotole’s hospital room in a nearby ward.

Investigators noted that these items are undergoing forensic analysis at the National Forensic Laboratory.

Kalombotole is described as a long-term patient who went to KNH in late 2022.

He was later rehospitalised in December 2024 and was still admitted when the murders occurred in the hospital.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), more time is needed to gather medical and forensic reports, complete pending laboratory work, and fully record statements.
