A tragic road accident occurred on Friday, August 1, near Nanyuki along the busy Nairobi–Moyale Highway, involving a Liban bus and a private car.
The crash resulted in the death of the private car’s driver, who died on the spot.
Several passengers in both vehicles were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. The exact number of those injured has not yet been confirmed.
According to early reports, the Liban bus was travelling from Nairobi when it collided with the saloon car.
The cause of the accident has not yet been established, but police have launched an investigation.
Barely a week ago, a tragic accident occurred on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway near Makindu on July 27, 2025.
One person died and ten others were seriously injured when a Dreamliner bus and a tuk-tuk collided.
This accident happened around midnight and was reportedly caused by the tuk-tuk disrupting the bus's path as it was travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa.
The injured were taken to Amref-Kibwezi Hospital for medication. Traffic marshals and police officers were also spotted on the scene helping direct the traffic.
To address the rising number of accidents, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) recently started a new effort to make roads safer.
On July 31, 2025, the NTSA announced new rules for both private and public vehicles. These rules include making sure all vehicles are safe to drive and have insurance. They also require public vehicles to have special inspection papers.
According to the NTSA, all vehicles must be fitted with functioning speed governors that transmit data to the authority’s central system. Drivers are urged to stay in their lanes and avoid carrying excess passengers.
Passengers are reminded to wear their seatbelts at all times while in the vehicle. The agency noted that common mistakes such as speeding and drunk driving remain the leading causes of fatalities on Kenyan roads. The NTSA stated that the implementation and enforcement of these new rules will help save lives.
