The Ministry of Labour has announced the release of Ksh4.6 billion for the payment of Inua Jamii beneficiaries for the months of June and July.
In a statement by Social Services and Senior Citizen Affairs Principal Secretary, Joseph Motari, on Thursday, the Ministry announced that over one million beneficiaries would receive Ksh4,000 each instead of the usual Ksh2,000 after going unpaid in June.
Following the disbursement, the government urging the beneficiaries and their caretakers to collect the funds.
"The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, has released Ksh. Four Billion, Six Hundred and Seven Million, Six Hundred and Sixty-Eight Thousand (4,607,668,000) for payment to 1,151,917 Older Persons and Persons Living With Severe Disabilities enrolled in the Inua Jamii Program," the statement read in part.
"The disbursement covers stipends for both the June and July 2025 payment cycles. Each beneficiary will receive Ksh4,000, representing Ksh2,000 per month for the two months. Payments commenced today."
In June, the beneficiaries missed their payments due to unprecedented delays that allowed for a system update.
As such, the Ministry apologised for any inconvenience the delay caused the beneficiaries, who are mostly senior citizens aged over 70, orphans, vulnerable children and persons with severe disabilities.
"The June cycle payment had been delayed due to a data cleanup exercise. The State Department apologises to beneficiaries for any inconvenience caused by the delay," the statement read.
To conclude, the beneficiaries were asked to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable and quality healthcare in line with the government's plan.
To access the funds, one can do so through the eCitizen platform or by dialling *222#. After this, one can withdraw the funds from a mobile money agent.
They have also been urged to report any issues or challenges to the nearest social protection offices.
The Ministry recently streamlined the withdrawal process by allowing beneficiaries to access the money through mobile money, as opposed to previously, where the funds were being disbursed to their bank accounts, disadvantaging many.
