Several people are feared dead after a tragic head-on crash involving two trucks on the Makutano-Kenol highway.
According to preliminary reports, a lorry traveling towards Makutano reportedly lost control, veered into the path of oncoming traffic, and collided with another truck.
The crash caused the first lorry to flip over and fall into a river.
The number of people who died and those who were injured has not yet been confirmed.
In an image obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the front part of the lorry was completely destroyed.
The early afternoon incident caused a major traffic snarl-up on the Nairobi-bound lane of the highway.
Emergency services and law enforcement rushed to the site to manage the situation and assist with recovery efforts.
The tragic crash follows another recent accident on the same highway, where a lorry carrying cattle was involved in an incident a few weeks ago.
On August 12, witnesses reported that the speeding vehicle lost control before it rolled over in the same Kenol-Sagana stretch at Makutano.
According to the report, all the livestock died even as local authorities launched investigations into the incident.
In the first three weeks of August alone, 80 fatal accidents have been reported across the country.
This series of fatal accidents has prompted the Ministry of Transport to send a special team to investigate areas where accidents often happen.
As part of their investigation, officials will recreate accident scenes to figure out exactly what caused them.
