The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has outlined the steps to access a loan statement and check the amount still owed to the board.

In a notice on Monday, August 25, HELB revealed that the information can be obtained from the loanee's portal, which is also accessible through its mobile app.

At the portal, you can find your statement on loan balance after repayments or before you start paying back.

"You can easily view your loan balance and download your statement from the HELB Portal, helb.co.ke/loanees-portal," the notice read.

Step-by-Step Guide to Access HELB Loan Balance Online

  • Navigate to the loanee portal through helb.co.ke/loanees-portal and log in or register.
  • For first-time users of the portal, you will be required to register using personal details, like your email address and Identification number.
  • Afterwards, you will be prompted to activate your account from your email, upon which you can start accessing the services offered in the portal.
  • Navigate to the "self-serve" tab on the dashboard.
  • Click on the "statement" tab, and you will be redirected to your HELB balances.

Besides pending loan balances, the timelines for all the loans taken during your higher education studies will also be available on the portal, detailing all money deposited both in your personal account for upkeep and the institution’s account for tuition.

For compliance certificates after repaying the loans, one can also use the self-serve tab of the Higher Education Fund (HEF) portal.
