People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has denied claims that she is politically realigning herself with President William Ruto.
Responding to allegations made by an ally of President Ruto, Karua denied following in Raila Odinga's footsteps to work with the Kenya Kwanza government.
The ally took to a post to allege that Karua, a senior counsel, was following the justice system and had decided to rally behind the president.
However, Karua strongly opposed, clarifying that she stood firm and supported former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s ‘wantam’ agenda.
Karua advised her supporters to ignore the reports, flagging them as fake news. According to the party leader, she maintained her stance that President Ruto remains unfit for the position.
‘’I do not belong to Williams Ruto's praise choir, and I believe that he is the most unsuitable character to ever have occupied high office,’’ Karua said.
Karua’s classification comes amid major political realignments as the 2027 General Election fast approaches.
During the 2022 General Election, Martha Karua was Raila Odinga’s running mate. Many presumed that she might take the same direction as Raila and support Ruto’s government.
However, her statement has cemented her stand and removed any doubts that she might be shifting allegiances soon.
As of the beginning of the year, Karua had publicly stated that she parted ways politically with Raila due to his newfound closeness with the President through their Broad-Based Agreement.
Karua made it clear that she would only consider working with Raila again if he severed ties with Ruto and supported her candidacy. Karua announced that she would be vying for the presidential seat in 2027.
Meanwhile, President Ruto has always preached unity, saying he was ready to work with any leader in tandem with his agenda.
