Two-time 800m World Championship gold medalist Billy Komintai Konchellah had his appointment as a member of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) revoked a week after he landed the government role.
The new development was disclosed through a gazette notice by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya. However, Konchellah went on to land another government role, this time as a member of the National Heroes Council.
His appointment was confirmed by Gender CS Hannah Cheptumo, with the former athlete to be at the Council for three years.
Konchellah won two gold medals in the 800m at the World Championships in Rome (1987) and Tokyo (1991). He also won a bronze medal at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart.
He also won the 800m race at the 1987 All-Africa Games. His best time in the 800m was 1:43.06, a record that stood until 2019. He was a promising junior athlete, setting an African junior record in 1979, and finished fourth at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
In other appointments across government ministries, Health CS appointed Boniface Yego as a member of the Board of Directors at the Kenya National Public Health Institute for three years.
CS Ogamba’s Universities’ Changes
At the same time, Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba made a raft of changes across various public universities in the country. Ogamba appointed Rosebella Namango as a member of the Council at Kenyatta University. Namango’s appointment resulted in the revocation of the appointments of Alice Waruguru Muita and Ibrahim Abdi Mude in the same capacity.
However, Muita was appointed to be a member of the Council at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology for three years. On the other hand, Mude was shifted to the Council of Machakos University as a member. Mude’s appointment triggered the revocation of Esther Ngiya-Murimi’s appointment in the same capacity.
Ogamba also appointed Amos Okello as a member of the Council of Bomet University, revoking his initial appointment to Egerton University in the same capacity. He is set to serve for three years.
Razoah Vitisia was appointed as a member of the Council at Tom Mboya University, after her initial appointment at the University of Eldoret was revoked. Vitisia will serve for three years.
CS Ogamba also re-appointed Nashon Nyona as a member of the Council of Taita Taveta University, for a period of three years.
Another appointment made by Ogamba was that of Issa Mohamed Ahmed as a member of the Council at Tharaka University, for three years.
