Faith Kipyegon made history with yet another win in the 1500m final at the World Athletics Championships on Tuesday, September 16.

Kipyegon proved too strong for her opponents in Tokyo as she powered to victory with a time of 3:52:15 to become the most successful Kenyan at the World Athletics Championships with 5 Golds and 2 silver medals.

In what was a remarkable display from the Kenyan contingent, Dorcus Ewoi claimed silver in the 1500m finals, coming narrowly behind her Kenyan counterpart with a time of 3:54:92.

The other Kenyan in the final, Nelly Chepchirchir, came in fourth, as despite her best efforts, she was beaten to bronze by Australia's Jessica Hull.

Kipyegon took the lead early on, with her counterpart Chepchirchir trailing closely behind while Ewoi bid her time in the early stages.

As the race wore on, there were signs that it would be a four-way battle, although Kipyegon, who recently attempted to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes, maintained her pace, giving her opponents little chance to catch up.

By the final lap, there was daylight between Kipyegon and her closest rivals, Hull and Ewoi as the 31-year-old established a fair distance to leave her competitors battling for second place at best.

The race for silver and bronze was a tight one, with Uwoi, Chepchirchir and Hull all battling for a podium finish. Chepchirchr, despite being in contention, was narrowly edged out by her Australian competitor, who beat her by the finest of margins.

Going into the 1500m final, Kipyegon was a heavy favourite to retain the title she won during the last edition of the championships in Budapest. During the heats, she was fairly relaxed, clinching first place in the semis with a time of 4:00:34.

The victory in the 1500m means Kenya now has four medals in Tokyo as of September 16, including three gold medals.

Beatrice Chebet kicked off Kenya's medal hunt with her victory in the 10,000m on September 13. This was followed by Peres Jepchirchir's win in the women's marathon on Sunday.

Edmund Serem won bronze in the men's 3000m steeplechase final on Monday, after a powerful last lap.
