The Nairobi County government has shortlisted eight people as it seeks to appoint borough managers to help in overseeing the service delivery across the city.
In the statement on September 18, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said that out of the eight shortlisted, six individuals will be appointed.
The six appointed will be picked to head Nairobi East, West, North, South, South East, and Central boroughs.
“We have shortlisted borough managers; eight names have already been tabled, and from them, we shall appoint six. Each manager will be responsible for their borough, ensuring that local needs such as roads, water, and other essential services are identified and addressed without unnecessary bureaucracy,” Sakaja said.
According to Sakaja, the managers will be acting as a direct link between the county government and the residents.
The governor added that this will also help to capture priorities specific to each region in Nairobi City.
"These managers will step down to the ground, listen to what people need, and work with the executive to ensure solutions are delivered,” he explained.
Sakaja also added that the appointments are part of his broader plan to make service delivery more inclusive and responsive.
"This system brings government closer to the people. It’s about understanding that what Nairobi West requires may be different from what Nairobi East needs. By localising leadership, we can ensure development is fair, focused, and effective,” he said.
The managers will also be responsible for critical services such as water supply, roads, garbage collection and other essentials.
Sakaja added that this will reduce procedural delays and improve county accountability, encouraging ownership of local development.
In the statement, the final list of individuals appointed will be released in the coming week by the county government.
