Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has flagged an allegedly doctored video in which he purportedly hit out at former Prime Minister and his party leader, Raila Odinga.
Taking to social media on Saturday evening, the MP shared the longer version of the video, claiming that his political rivals had edited the video to push a false narrative.
According to the MP, the video was from a rally in Suna East Constituency in 2024 during Raila's campaign for the AU Chairperson seat.
In the doctored video, sections of the original video had seemingly been spliced together, taking Owino's comments about President William Ruto and editing them to seem like they were meant for Raila.
The video had been taken at the height of Raila's campaigns for the African Union (AU) chairmanship position in 2024.
In his actual address, Owino had urged Raila to continue challenging for the rights of Kenyans, especially against exorbitant taxes on basic goods.
"Baba, before you go to AU, please organise one more protest so we finish this man (Ruto)," Owino said.
In the doctored version, however, all the negative comments meant for Ruto were spliced to seem like Raila's, even though Owino has been an avid supporter of Raila.
Over the past months, Owino has maintained his opposition to the Kenya Kwanza administration despite the signing of the 10-point agenda Memorandum of Understanding in which the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) committed to working with the long-serving opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for the good of all Kenyans.
However, he has yet to make any disparaging remarks against his party leader, despite their differing opinions about the government of the day.
Most recently, the MP has aligned himself with a few other young parliamentarians to push the Kenya Moja movement, even as speculations grow that he will be in the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
The Kenya Moja movement also includes another ODM member, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has also maintained his criticism of Ruto's administration, despite serving as the Secretary General of ODM.
