Former Member of Parliament for Wajir East Rashid Kassim Amin has defected from the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) party and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
On Saturday October 25, Amin was officially welcomed by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan at the party's headquarters along Ngong Road.
He stated that he had decided to leave the Wiper party because, as a representative of the people from Wajir, he could not oppose a government that was delivering tangible results for his constituents.
He stated that this decision had come after deep reflection and extensive consultation with religious leaders, his supporters, and community elders.
He explained that his move was not motivated by political convenience or personal ambitions but a genuine commitment to partnerships, developments, and pubic service.
Amin said that his main objective was to make sure that Wajir and Northern Kenya region residents are integrated into President Ruto's transformation agenda.
The announcement came a few weeks after another MP from the Wiper party joined President Ruto’s UDA.
Charles Ngusya Nguna, the MP for Mwingi West, made the switch on October 10, 2025, during a State House visit.
After meeting Lower Eastern leaders at State House in Nairobi, President Ruto applauded Nguna for his bold decision to switch parties in order to promote development in his constituency.
“I specifically thank Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna for Mwingi West for his bold move to join our team to push forward the development agenda in his constituency,” he said.
During the meeting, Nguna urged Mwingi West residents to get ready for Ruto’s events and development projects in the region.
“Tighten your belts! It’s going to be busy the next two weeks with President William Ruto,” Nguna said.
