Families of victims of anti-government protests have announced plans to march to the State House on Monday, December 22, to seek an audience with President William Ruto over delayed justice and accountability.

The families issued a formal notice to the police notifying them of their planned march, highlighting the routes that they will use.

According to the notice, the families revealed that they shall begin the march at Jeevanjee Gardens at 9 Am, where they will converge before heading to the State House.

The families are asking the President to finally listen to their plight.

“We are asking that he finally hear the cries of families facing a Christmas without the laughter of their loved ones,” the notice read.

They want the President to support the families of the victims of the anti-government protests.

The families have also revealed in the notice that they will be discussing matters of justice with the Head of State once they get to State House.

They have notified the police that the march will be peaceful, requesting them to provide a police escort for the families during the march.

The families in the notice to the police have revealed that the participants of the march will only carry flowers and the national flag.

“Please note that this is a peaceful assembly; participants will only carry flowers and the national flag,” the notice read.

Earlier in the year, President Ruto established an 18-member Panel of Experts to coordinate the compensation of victims affected by anti-government protests and police brutality dating back to 2017.

However, on December 4, the High Court declared the panel unconstitutional, ruling that its mandate encroaches on the constitutional duties of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
