State House Road is among the major roads across the country that are set to undergo major rehabilitation works, according to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

According to a tender notice by the KURA, Director General Silas Kinoti signed on December 19,  the rehabilitation of the road will cost Ksh1.6 billion.

State House Road starts from Nairobi's CBD, connecting with major thoroughfares like University Way and leading directly to the State House, serving as a crucial route for accessing government offices and the Presidential residence.

The rehabilitation of the route is expected to improve traffic flow along the route, which serves one of the city's key segments, according to KURA.

Other key roads that are set for rehabilitation include  Mfangano Ring Road, Mathare access roads, Casaurina Road in Kilifi, Kagio Town- Kanharu-Kathaka Road, Nakuru town East Roads, among others.

Kinoti said that successful bidders of the projects  will undertake the rehabilitation of the  roads in line with government specifications and timelines

Bidders shall be required to submit several documents, including Certificate of Incorporation, annual practising license, Tax Compliance certificate, and CR 12 form, for them to be eligible for the tenders, as well as a valid Registration Certificate for Access to Government Procurement Opportunities for special projects.

Interested bidders will be required to deposit their respective tender documents in the respective tender boxes a the KURA Nairobi Regional Offices and Headquarters before Thursday, January 22.

Completed tender documents are to be enclosed in plain sealed envelopes clearly marked with tender name, reference number, and submitted to the Nairobi Regional Office or the Headquarters as indicated in this tender notice.

Over the past year, President William Ruto’s administration has emphasised the rehabilitation of major roads while also promising to roll out new transport infrastructure projects.

Just recently, during the 62nd Jamhuri Day Celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, December 12, the president highlighted an ambitious plan to construct a Thika Expressway, which he affirmed will be a game changer in the transport sector.

According to the Head of State, the highway would begin near the existing Nairobi expressway at Museum Hill interchange and end at Thika town, to supplement the already existing Thika super highway.

Speaking during a church service in Karure, Kiambu County, on Sunday, December 14, the president also said that the dualing of the Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi road will kickstart in February 2026.

Works on the 175-kilometre stretch of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway are also set to begin in 2026, with motorists expected to pay Ksh1,400 in toll fees for the full journey.
