As Kenya welcomes 2026, ODM party leader Oburu Odinga issued a call for unity within the opposition party, urging members to reject division and embrace dialogue on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

In his New Year message, Oburu reflected on the challenges that tested Kenya's resolve in 2025.

He emphasized the need for the nation to move forward together.

"The year 2025 has tried our strength as a people. Yet, time and again, Kenyans proved that our strength lies in our unity, our hard work, and our unbreakable hope for a better tomorrow," Oburu stated.

Oburu Odinga added that all forms of divison that seek to threaten the party’s foundations should be rejected.

“The year ahead calls upon us to reject division and embrace dialogue, to choose peace over conflict, and to put the interests of the nation above personal or political gain. Progress is possible when we walk together,” Oburu stated.

The message comes amid escalating tensions within ODM following the death of party leader Raila Odinga in October 2025.

ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna called for a National Delegated Council vote to decide on a potential alliance with President William Ruto's UDA ahead of the 2027 elections during the burial ceremony of the late Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo on Wednesday, December 30,2025.

The divisions have intensified with Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development Wycliffe Oparanya also declaring his readiness to leave ODM to foster unity in Western Kenya.

Kisumu Women Rep Ruth Odinga has defended Sifuna while urging an end to alleged smear campaigns against the Odinga family.

In his message, Oburu outlined ODM's vision for the new year stating that the new ear should be guided by a clear vision.
